The Rapid Assessment Team (RAT) is a team of senior nursing and medical staff who
work from the triage area and provide a rapid assessment of clients who present to
the Emergency Department. This team comprises a senior nurse and medical officer on
all Early and Late shifts Clients are referred to the RAT after they have booked in
at triage. This team then performs a clinical assessment and commences treatment such
as insertion of cannulaes, taking blood for pathology testing, sending clients for
X-rays, ultrasounds or CT scans, and providing vital fluids and pain relief.
